THE WAY IT WAS – Byrd Bobbin

These bobbins were useful as they held held thread or wool.  Many were placed on spindles attached to a weaving machine.   As they were highly decorated they were also an advertisement for the Byrd Bobbin/Bird Bobbin Company.   The big machines made such a clatter and one could not hear themselves speak.  The designers of this bobbin took a great deal of pride in their work  the bobbin is 14 1/4 inches long with a tapered cylinder.

Middle Eastern Carpet Mixture of Kilim and Persian Weave Style?

Hand tied carpet, stitches show high and low weave, appears to be mixture of Kilim and Persian style.  Size is 9 feet by 6.5 feet with rich colors.

Copper Disk Vintage Ashtray Marines Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima

This is a very unusual ashtray, with image of the Marines Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima 1945, the name COWAN is in the copper/metal disk in the center of the ashtray. The Hyde Park 1900 is on the back of the piece and could have been at that hotel.  It is heavy pottery (could be Cowan Pottery Co.  The condition is excellent with one small dark (burn mark) small lines as seen in the photo.  Measures  12 inches in diamer; the dish measures 2 1/2 inches.
