THE WAY IT WAS: Mendets (Really)

Did you ever see a repaired pot?   Found an old copper pot mended several times and found it to be curious and amazing with metal patches.   Who would have thought it?

Living frugally with parents who were ten and twelve years old during the worst years of the Depression,  I still had never seen or heard of mending your pots.  Till now, I found this original mending set.   In that era they never threw anything away, just mend it for further use or find another use for it.

VINTAGE COLLECTIBLES: Blakely Carousel Glasses

Blakely Gas Stations had an incentive program in Arizona in the 50’s and I believe early 60’s.   Receive a glass with purchase of a certain amount of gas.   Few remember the carousel glasses as the most popular was the Arizona Cacti.   Collectible were 8 different cactus, a pitcher and a wood carrier.  Dinnerware was also included in the cacti promotion.

THE WAY IT WAS: Primitive Wood Storage Containers

This is a fine reproduction of a  storage box decorated.  Wood strips had to be steamed so they would curve and bend to a certain size and put together with tight fitting seams for storage of grains, rice and such to keep out insects.  Handles for hanging.  Crafts we have forgotten as new storage surfaced.
